Hüseyin KAHRAMAN / A Contextual Analysis of the Hadith of ‘the Creation of Adam in God’s Image’

Abstract: The hadith “God created Adam in his image” that known in briefly as ‘sûra hadith’ has important place in Islamic intellectual history especially in Islamic mistisism and theology. Orientalists have been interested in this hadith because it’s one of the proofs they have used for tehir claims on Islam in general and in hadith in particular. Altough the hadith was in the most famous hadith sources, there are some scientists in both Islamic world and West claiming that the hadith is Jewish origin and it’s transferred from Torah to hadith sources. In this article, it is tried to explain from a different view point that who the hadith belongs to. The hadith is also understood and interpreted in a new approach.
