Abdullah AYDINLI / al-Sayyed Hâmid of Bandirma (1111-1172/1699-1758 or 1759) and his ‘Ukud al-durar fî hudûdi ‘ilm al-athar - -
Abstract: Hamid b. Yusuf of Bandirma (1699-1759) is an Ottoman scholar who is said to be a descendant of the Prophet. After his first education in Istanbul, Hamid travelled to Syria, Egypt and Hijaz. After his journeys, he returned to Istanbul, where he continued his scholarly activities. He produced around eighty works of which only five came down to us. Ukud al durar, one of his extant works, is the fist dictionary of technical term in the field of hadith. In this work, he presents 167 terms, which he derived from 18 methodology works, in an alphabetic order.
