Ayhan TEKiNES / Hadith and History: A Methodological Comparison

Abstract: Hadith methodology played an important role in the formation of Islamic sciences, in particular in the formation of Islamic History. Islamic History benefited from Hadith methodology in evaluating historical reports by using chain of transmissions. The relation between Hadith and History continues today. Some Hadith scholars try to use the contemporary methods of History. Since there are historical differences between these two sciences and the methodology of modern History is influenced from the environment in which it was produced, it is necessary to point out some issues in relation to sharing terminology and methodology. This article aims to point out main differences between Hadith Methodology and the Methodology of History.
