Mirza TOKPINAR / A Study on the Hadith ‘Man tashabbaha bi-qawmin fa-huwa minhum’

Abstract: Abu Dawud narrated that the Prophet said that “Whoever resembles a community he/she is from them.” However he quotes the hadith incompletely and out of its context. It caused misinterpretation of the hadith. As a result of this, Muslim individual’s belonging to the Islamic community has been debated in case of resemblance to other communities. This study aims to establish context and meaning of the hadith. In order to reach to a conclusion, context of the hadith is investigated in various hadith resources and its ravis are examined.
