ishak Emin AKTEPE / Shafi’i’s Interpretation About Conflicting Traditions

Abstract: Imam Shafi‘i gave first extensive information about the science of Ihtilafu'l-hadith interested in conflicts among hadiths. This paper deals with his opinions about the Sunnah. We saw that Imam Shafi‘i acknowledged each and every one of hadith script as the genesis of a different Sunnah, and he had attempted to put every hadith text into practice. Moreover, he intended to base everything on a rule, and thus he wanted to limit the interpretation of the hadith. However in our opinion if he had used a flexible method open to interpretation in terms of Sunnah, he could have solved the ihtilafu'l-hadith issue.
