Aynur URALER / Some Considerations on the Source of Sunnah

Abstract: The Qur’an and the Sunnah, in Islam, have been acknowledged as mutual sources. Many verses and Hadiths bear testimony to that Sunnah stems from revelation. The Sunnah, accordingly, has either derived from revelation or has been approved by it. Well renowned is the fact that the promulgation of Islam has not exclusively been through the Qur’an, and that God has revealed the religion to His Prophet by virtue of more ways than one. Predicating Sunnah upon divine revelation is thus a necessary and moreover a natural outcome of various incentives, such as the actualization of the Qur’an and as a consequence of the duty of prophethood.
